How to Keep Bows and Ribbon Details Neat After Washing

Small bows and ribbon ties give sleepwear a polished finish, but they can twist, crease, or lose their shape when handled like the rest of the garment. A few gentle steps before washing and while drying can help these details sit neatly without pulling on lace or fine straps.

Check How Each Detail Is Attached

Before washing, look closely at every bow, tie, and ribbon loop. A decorative bow may be stitched firmly in place, while a back tie or halter strap is designed to open. Do not tug on a fixed bow to test it. Instead, check the surrounding stitches and note whether any thread already looks loose.

Wash Without Twisting the Ribbon

Follow the garment care label first. For hand washing, lower the piece into cool water and press the solution through gently instead of rubbing the bow between your fingers. For a machine-approved piece, use a fine mesh laundry bag and keep it away from towels, denim, exposed zippers, and hooks.

Reshape While the Fabric Is Damp

Lay the garment flat on a clean towel or use the care-label-approved drying method. Smooth each ribbon between two fingers without stretching it. Arrange fixed bow loops symmetrically, straighten the tails, and let them dry in that position.
